Bustinskin Triathlon

27 September 2009 Starts at 06:00

There will be a few sore feet and legs by the end of the day on Saturday, given the gruelling Bustinskin 70.3 Triathlon that is taking place.

Covering a total of 70.3 miles the Middle Distance Triaathlon takes in some of the best of the Dorset Jurassic Coast and countryside.

The 70 mile triathlon looks to be a very tough race. The event kicks off with an open water swim of 1.2 miles, followed by a very undulating 55 mile bike ride through the Dorset hills taking in lots of climbing, and then finsihes off with a Dorset Coastal Path half marathon - PHEW!!!

With 130 competitors signed up for the race and with the weather looking pretty good for the weekend it should be a great event.

Good luck to all those taking part. We will be on the look out to cheer on competitors as they come through Weymouth.

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Although we still have a few visitors down on Weymouth Beach this last week as the sun has been out, the temperatures have just started to drop and it is starting to feel that autumn is on its way in Dorset.

We have been lucky in that it has only rained once this week but already the enquiries for Regatta Ladies Waterproof Jackets have started to come in.

So ladies, here’s our round up of what we currently have in stock. We have access to a full range of colours and can cater for all sizes (from size 10 through to 22) so we hope you can find a waterproof that matches your requirements.

The hood stows in the collar for easy access in a sudden downpour and an adjustable hem helps seals in warmth and keeps out the cold.

The elements are kept out with fully taped seems which means your jacket is completely waterproof and windproof. The interior 200 series anti-pill Symmetry fleece jacket provides an additional layer of warm for those cold winter days.

The Regatta Fifi is the perfect 3-in-1 jacket to keep you warm and dry during winter fun and light activities.

Although it is described by Regatta Outdoor Clothing as a male jacket, the Regatta Shortwave Jacket is a great allround unisex waterproof that proves popular with the ladies.

Available in a dark mushroom colour (Clay) or navy blue, the Regatta Shortwave is a great colour for matching with almost anything. The generous cut also makes it the perfect waterproof in larger sizes.

Top of our list of waterproof jacket recommendations this Autumn is the Regatta Ultra 3 in 1 Waterproof Jacket with Fleece Inner.

We would describe the Regatta Ultra 3 in 1 as a unisex waterproof jacket that packs that extra degree of warmth and comfort when you most need it. As the name suggests, this jacket is three products in one. You can wear the jacket on its own, or wear the fleece on its own, zip the two together and you have a performance waterproof that will keep you completely dry and warm on the coldest of days.

The  Regatta Ultra uses a breathable Isotex 5000 coated polyester fabric and underam ventilation that also ensures you don’t get too much condensation building up inside the jacket and you remain warm and comfortable.

Available in Red and Black and Royal Blue and Black plus sizes from S-XXXL there is no reason why you shouldn’t find a jacket to fit you.

For the ultimate in waterproof performance without the major price tag choose the Regatta Ultra 3 in 1 Waterproof Jacket with Fleece Inner

Nick Dempsey win RSX World Championships in Weymouth

Nick Dempsey RS:X Windsurfing World Champion

Nick Dempsey RS:X Windsurfing World Champion

Congratulations to our very own Weymouth windsurfer, Nick Dempsey who has been crowned World Champion at this week’s RS:X World Windsurfing Championships in Weymouth.

The event has been taking place all week at the National Sailing Academy in Weymouth and we are sure it has helped Nick kick into touch the omens of finishing fourth at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Nick led the men’s fleet going into the medal race and needed to only finish two place above Israel’s Nimrod Mashiah to seal victory. But the 29-year-old did a fantatstic job on his home water and led from start to finish to win gold by 18 points. His can now add his World Championship title to the Olympic bronze medal he won in Athens before finishing fourth in Beijing.

We know that Nick is a great outdoors man, cycling and training in and around Weymouth - so the win is made even more special.

On his victory Nick said:

“I was broken man after Beijing because I was leading going into the final medal race so to come fourth was heartbreaking. Ever since, my focus has been on winning here so this is as good as it gets and will only be bettered by a gold medal in 2012.”

He went on to add “It’s just awesome. In some ways, the world championships are harder than the Olympics because you are sailing against 100 others rather than just 30 so this has ticked a massive box,” all this despite carrying a hamstring injury.

Nick and his wife Sarah Ayton, live and train in Weymouth alongside the other Skandia Team GBR sailors so if you are in and around Portland Harbour whilst you may be visiting Weymouth keep you eyes peeled for a glimpse of this true local champion.

Well done Nick from all at The Outdoor Store !!
